Edge Connector FixturePN# 220EDGE An edge connector fixture can be a low cost alternative to a bed of nails fixture. The most important features of this Edge Connector Tester is its portablility, ease of use, intuitive control functions, and durability in a production environment.
General
If basic power up and operational tests can be performed through the edge connector, and total test volume is
predicted to be lower than 10,000 , this may be a good low cost option for final functional test instead of a
bed of nails tester. The circuit board under test is inserted into the edge connector and the test is run.
In this example, extensive front panel test jacks and switching capabilities are provided for manual testing and
troubleshooting.
Mechanical
The edge connector in the fixture is socket mounted for easy removal and replacement as it wears out. Simply
remove two holding screws, remove holding shroud, unplug old edge connector and replace with new. Compared to
Bed of Nails fixture, edge connector fixtures require frequent edge connector replacment. Typically after one
thousand tests and cost $5-$20 to replace. Bed of Nails testers are good for one million operations. Edge
connector fixtures are recommended only for volumes below 10,000 total tests. After replacing the connector
about 10 times it becomes more cost effective to use a Bed of Nails Tester. Enclosure is made from durable
.0625" Aluminum.
Electrical
Internal circuit boards provide interconnection between front panel jacks and switches. Rear panel connector and
ribbon cable provides signal from National Instruments computer board.
Availability
Custom fixtures range from 2-4 weeks, depending on complexity
