Designed for Research & Development and Pre-Production environments to support often reoccurring product design changes. The primary design focus for this fixture is ease in applying engineering changes and resilience to the abuse of applying multiple engineering changes without damage. In R&D and Preproduction, design changes and updates can occur every week. This Rand fixture, unlike normal test fixtures was designed to be easily taken apart and updated. Constantly disassembling modifying and reassembling a normal bed of nails test fixture over and over again can be a major disaster with wire breakage and test pin bending issues. The modular design of the Rand fixture allows for easy disassembly without flexing the wires or risk of bending test pins. The Rand fixture provides complete easy access for multiple updates requiring machining, drilling and wiring changes.

Edge Press Technology provides high access to the top side of the board for troubleshooting, making adjustments and visual monitoring. Edge press is required where high component densities limit press down rod access. Edge press technology provides low board flex required by large high density component packages.

Bed of Nails Fixture Edge Press Front View Adjustable Height
Some enclosure designs can be tested through plastics by using access panels or battery doors. This Rand fixture has an adjustable height feature which allows the press plate to be set to any height for matching to the outer mechanical dimensions of the enclosure plastics. Final functional testing can ensure full functionality prior to boxing and shipping your product.

With the Prober-EZ build kit, all you need is a drill press, a few basic hand tools and two days. Download the EZ Fixture Kit Instruction Manual Picture Book. The Instruction Manual was written as a highly illustrated picture book to allow even non-English speaking users to follow the process and build a precision fixture. Using the methods in this manual it is possible to build a fixture to accuracies comparable to a CNC milling machine using only a drill press and a few basic hand tools! Basically the technique is to use a blank board as a drill template. Since the blank board was drilled with a precision CNC drill, the results of using a drill press with the blank board as a template will approach the accuracies of a CNC machine. The resulting fixture will have enough accuracy to probe small 30mil diameter targets spaced as close as 50mil.
